Injectable Fillers Q&A

What are injectable fillers?

Injectable fillers are a popular, minimally invasive cosmetic treatment designed to replace age-related volume loss.  Becker Cosmetic offers Juvéderm® and Restylane® injectable fillers.

A variety of gel-like fillers are used for injections, including hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in your skin. Hyaluronic acid helps your skin look plump and fresh. It supports your skin’s elasticity, which improves the way your skin bounces back from the folds that form when you smile, frown, or make other expressions.

What imperfections do injectable fillers correct?

The team at the Dr. Nancy Becker, DO clinic uses injectable fillers to correct a variety of imperfections and signs of aging. Some of the common uses of injectable fillers are:

  • Plumping thinning lips
  • Reducing vertical lines around your lips
  • Smoothing wrinkles and lines around the nose and mouth
  • Replacing volume in your cheeks and temples
  • Improving symmetry in your facial features

Your aesthetic specialist provides a comprehensive exam and consultation to determine how to best address your concerns. They provide natural-looking results so that you look younger and refreshed without any obvious signs of having injectable fillers.

What happens during an injectable filler treatment?

Injectable filler sessions usually take around a half-hour, depending on the number of injections you need. Your aesthetic specialist starts your treatment by cleaning your skin and carefully examining your face, marking the injection sites. If you have sensitive skin or are nervous about needles, they can apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort.

Once your skin is prepared, your aesthetic specialist uses a small, sterile needle to inject the gel into your skin. They work quickly but carefully, stopping frequently to check their progress and gently massage the gel into place.

How should I take care of my skin after my filler injections?

Your skin may appear slightly pink for a few hours after your injectable filler appointment. You can wash your face with a gentle cleanser and lightly apply your serums and moisturizers.

You can get right back to your regular activities after your treatment but should avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your injections. As always, you need to take care to avoid the sun. You should always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen and re-apply liberally if you spend a lot of time outdoors.
