Collagen & Anti-Aging

May 5, 2023

Collagen is a fiber in the connective tissue throughout the body that gives the skin its strength and structure especially in the face. The production of collagen stops in your mid to late 20s, and continues to degrade naturally every year after.

Some preventative maintenance treatments that we offer are: Microneedling, Microneedling with Radio Frequency, and Forever Young BBL. The goal in anti-aging is to stimulate collagen production. When you cut yourself, the collagen that rushes to the area in the wound healing attempt ends up being unorganized, thick and fibrotic creating a scar/scar tissue. When you make a controlled injury in the skin (i.e Microneedling, Microneedling with Radio Frequency etc.) it allows current collagen to remodel itself and allow new collagen and elastin to rush to the area in order to heal the micro-injury.

Estrogen also plays a part in the aging process and the degradation of collagen as well. Often times, people wait until they notice their aging significantly which can take more to correct. Along with losing collagen, our facial fat pads all slide downward and we lose bone density which can result in skin sagging, eye bags being more noticeable, and jowels forming under the jawline. With this, it may take more treatments and treatment options to correct all concerns, Often we use facial fillers to restore the volume lost due to age whether it be in the cheeks, jaw, or even under the eyes. Fillers in conjunction with collagen stimulating treatments are often suggested for the full correction of the skin concerns.

When you start on your anti-aging journey, depending on where you are starting and what your desired end result is, the first treatment plan will be for the correction of all skin concerns. Once you get your skin to where you are happy, there will be maintenance treatments needed yearly to maintain original results.

Other things that will also help to maintain are physician grade at home skin care appropriate for your skin type, using at least SPF 50 daily, and living a healthy lifestyle!
